The Chambersburg Police Department initially responded to reports of an explosion at approximately 2 a.m. Further details shared by the Greater Chambersburg Area Paid Fire Fighters Association indicate that crews were dispatched for an auto accident with entrapment, an explosion, and a fire in the borough.

When Engine 1-1 arrived at the scene, firefighters found a food trailer had exploded, creating a large debris field and sparking a small fire while a propane leak remained active, the association said. Crews quickly deployed a handline, extinguished the fire, and safely shut off the propane leak.

Firefighters searched nearby homes and confirmed no injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate.

The intersection of Ramsey Avenue and Wilson Avenue and surrounding areas remain closed as cleanup and investigations continue. Police are asking the public to avoid the area until further notice.
